Faith in Jesus is Quietly Rising in America — Here’s What You Need to Know

📺 Watch the video above before you dive in. It sets the tone for everything I’m about to say.

We’ve all heard the headlines:

"Faith is dead in America."
"Christianity is in decline."
"Young people are walking away from the church in droves."

It’s repeated so much it starts to feel like truth… but what if it’s not?

I just finished reading a new report from Barna, and it absolutely blew me away. Faith in Jesus is actually growing—and fast. Especially among Gen Z and Millennial men. That’s right. Not declining. Not dying. Rising.

And as someone who’s been working hard to make spiritual growth simple for everyday Christians, I’m telling you—this is something we need to pay attention to.

What the Data Says (and Why It Matters)

Barna reports that 66% of U.S. adults now say they’ve made a personal commitment to Jesus—a huge jump from where things were just a few years ago. In fact, it’s up 12 points since 2021, when faith hit an all-time low.

This is more than a statistic. According to Barna, it could be one of the clearest signs of spiritual renewal in America. And what’s really wild? It’s being fueled by young people, especially men between the ages of 18 and 44.

That lines up with what I’ve been seeing here on Growing Godly too. The majority of my YouTube viewers are young men—men who are hungry for truth, craving real answers, and ready to go deeper in their faith journey.

Why the Trend Shifted

From 2010 to 2021, things looked rough. That’s when secularism was booming. Social media took over our brains, social movements got louder and the Church (for the most part) got quieter—or more watered down.

➡️ Discipleship took a backseat.
➡️ Spiritual formation got replaced by entertainment.
➡️ Conviction got labeled as hate.

And for a while, it felt like Christianity was fading.

But then real life happened—crises, broken promises, a culture of confusion. And in the mess, people started waking up. They’re realizing that the gospel of self isn’t delivering. That the deeper answers their souls crave can’t be found in algorithmic self-help content.

They’re coming back to Jesus.

Here’s the Twist: Faith Is Growing, But Church Isn’t

Barna also found something super interesting: a lot of people are making a personal commitment to Jesus—but they’re still hesitant about “organized religion.” They want Jesus, but they’re unsure about His Church.

I get it. We’ve seen scandals. We’ve seen shallow preaching. We’ve seen a lack of spiritual depth.

But we’ve got to be careful not to throw out the whole idea of biblical community. Deep discipleship can’t happen in isolation. If we really want to grow in our faith, we’ve got to grow together.

You were made for community.
You need spiritual accountability.
You can’t fully love Jesus and reject His bride.

That’s why Christian formation isn’t just about saying “yes” to Jesus—it’s about learning how to live like Him, surrounded by others who are walking that same path.

What This Means for You (and Me)

This shift in faith isn’t just encouraging—it’s a wake-up call.

If you’re someone who’s newly exploring faith, or maybe coming back after years of wandering—I’m so glad you’re here. But don’t stop at the surface. There’s so much more to this journey than just believing. There’s a life of deep transformation waiting for you.

That’s why I started Growing Godly—to make that path clear, simple, and real. My heart is to help people move from spiritual stagnation to deep formation. Not just hype and emotion, but lasting growth with God.
